Coaching Corner: Revisiting an old friend

Recently, while looking for something, I came across a binder filled with lots of goodies around a class I developed years ago: “Are You The CEO Of Your Business? Conscious. Empowered. And Outrageously Happy.”

Go ahead now--answer that question. Are you pleased with your answer? Perhaps so, or perhaps not! First, let’s address the basic idea of being the CEO of your business. YOU ARE!!! You are probably under the umbrella of a broker (or you are the broker). Either way, you are in charge of how you develop and navigate your business. Do not look to your broker to give you business--if that happens, that’s great--just don’t count on it! It all comes back to you and how you want your own business to run.

Now, on a deeper level, let’s look at the other piece of this, beginning with conscious. What does that mean to you? Clearly you are not unconscious--you are walking around (hopefully). This type of consciousness is about being self-aware. Knowing yourself well provides a foundation and springboard to how you move through your life, both personally and professionally. Consciousness is a path that is available to you if you are willing to take it.

And, what about empowered? Do you feel empowered? The definition I found on this is, “to feel stronger and more confident, especially in controlling your life and claiming your rights.” How does that definition land with you? Or, are you shaking your head in bewilderment? Finding your own power comes with a commitment to yourself. Empowered individuals are not forceful, yet they are strong!

For the last piece, most probably there is not much to expand upon--being outrageously happy. For some, happiness is a normal way of life and yet others find it to be illusive. If this is something you can identify as important to you, make it a priority. Put your attention on what generates happiness for you, not those things that drag you down. Whatever you put your attention on will get bigger--you get to choose. This does not mean things don’t happen, of course they do. The key is what you want to focus on.

Hopefully this blog has planted a seed or two for you, I know it has for me! Enjoy!
