Coaching Corner: How Do You React?

Coaching Corner: How Do You React?

Jul 30, 2021

First, can I just say I cannot believe it's the end of July already! Crazy! Anyway, back to the topic of today...

Reactions--we all have them and some are definitely prettier than others! Earlier this week I facilitated a workshop around Agile EQ. What exactly is Agile EQ? Let’s begin with Emotional Intelligence--this is a not so new concept around how we handle ourselves socially and emotionally and I will get to the agile piece shortly.

Each of us has a “go to” pattern that we lean towards when it comes to emotional intelligence. The idea of having agile EQ is to know when to adapt your familiar way of responding to other options that are available to you.

Perhaps you are typically a very empathic person and struggle in situations where you need to be more confident and self-assured. Or, maybe you are very strong in your opinions and tend to push through any resistance you encounter and find that there may be times when you need to be more open to hearing others and their opinions.

This information is based upon work by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., and is truly one of the more profound and yet fun workshops I have facilitated. The following are the eight options for different styles of reacting, i.e. emotional intelligence:

  • Dynamic
  • Outgoing
  • Empathizing
  • Receptive
  • Composed
  • Objective
  • Resolute
  • Self-Assured

Where do you typically see yourself? Can you find ways to stretch to other options? Only you have those answers! Enjoy!
