Coaching Corner: Give Me a

Coaching Corner: Give Me a "C"

I frequently notice a theme bubble up among my clients during a coaching week, which I've come to appreciate. One of the recurring themes seems to be around clarity, or shall I say, the lack of clarity.

These discussions center around situations where clear agreements were minimal and/or assumptions were drawn based upon the alleged tone of a text. These two issues seem to rise to the surface on a regular basis, creating an environment that lacks clarity.

This observation has brought me to the conclusion that people generally are not so great with their agreements. When we do not make and keep clear agreements, expectations will rear their ugly little heads, upturning the hope from all involved that things “should” go a certain way. This problem seems to top the list. Not keeping an agreement, both personal and professional, leads to disappointment every time.

Following second on the list of non-clarity is: misinterpreting texts or other non-verbal communication. We see what we see through our individual filters. We then interpret, often incorrectly, without checking our assumptions.

How many misunderstandings might be averted merely by creating clear agreements and by clear communication on our devices?

Today, let’s aim for clarity in whatever you are participating in. Are your words and intentions clear and true? Do you need to confirm from others exactly what they need and expect from you? If this makes you feel uncomfortable, remember: clarity is an act of kindness.

C - L - A - R - I - T - Y!!! Throw those pom poms in the air and give a cheer!
