Major Property Tax Relief Measures Become Law
Governor DeWine has officially signed all four property tax reform bills recently passed by the Ohio General Assembly – HB 186, HB 335, HB 129, and HB 309, representing one of the most significant tax reform packages aimed at protecting Ohio’s homeowners in recent history. Together, the package delivers an estimated over $3 billion in relief and puts real guardrails on the automatic tax spikes that have hit communities across the state.
The new laws cap unvoted tax growth, fix long-standing flaws in the 20-mill floor, tighten levy oversight, and refund homeowners for excess payments. These changes will take effect for 2026 tax bills and give Ohioans more predictable, transparent, and fair property taxes.
This outcome follows over a year of advocacy from Ohio REALTORS®, including testimony, member mobilization, and sustained pressure after earlier reforms were vetoed. With the Governor’s signature, these protections are now on the books and homeowners will feel the impact next year.
