Coaching Corner: Sloooooooooow Down!

Coaching Corner: Sloooooooooow Down!

Come on! You know you rush around -- if not always, at least sometimes! Rushing comes with the business, sometimes we just find ourselves moving quickly from one appointment to the next. Or, from an appointment to a personal obligation that you are, of course, running late for!

As I write this, I am enjoying the culture, sites and food of Savannah, Georgia. Life seems to move slower here naturally, and I am easily responding to the invitation to slow down and it is lovely!

I have spoken before about our “essence pace,” that pace that is uniquely yours. For years I thought my pace was that of a speed racer. I truly believed I needed to move quickly to accomplish what was required of me in any given day. Boy, was I wrong! Moving at my essence or organic pace I have found that I accomplish so much more, and my results are more aligned with the quality of output that I prefer.

Here is an exercise that will help you determine your own essence pace -- find a room or hallway where you can walk for at least 10-15 feet. First, walk very quickly. Then walk back, but this time very slowly. For the third go round, walk at a pace that feels right. You will be able to tell the difference, you will feel yourself move with ease -- it will just feel good to you.

This week, pay careful attention to your pace, and how, by adjusting the speed at which you move you experience your accomplishments. And, as always, enjoy!!
