Coaching Corner: Push it!

Coaching Corner: Push it!

Often times when I begin to write my blog post I am unsure of where I may go with it, and today is one of those times. When this happens, I reflect back on the week, bringing to mind conversations with clients, with agents, and thinking about the events in general.

This week seemed to bring forth a bit of a theme -- pushing past our limitations. My first example was my own. For years I have done some sort of exercise and overall have felt good about what I did. This confidence led me to try a new class -- a Barre class. I knew going in that it would be hard but I had no idea it would be as challenging as it was. Muscle fatigue is the name of the game in this class and the sweat pouring off of me was like nothing I can remember! Every part of me wanted to quit but I continued to remind myself that I made a commitment to myself to increase my strength and flexibility as I aged. This is a huge goal for myself and that is what not only got me through the class but prompted me to register for more classes!

The second example was with a client, coming at this from a very different type of limitation. The limitation in this case was more mental than physical. This client was overwhelmed by the vast amount of project work piling up for her. Today, she pushed through the overwhelm and went through it all, identifying what was truly important and breaking it down into baby steps! She is now not only ready to tackle these items but reports that she feels excited!

The third event occurred this evening. My 7 year old granddaughter competed in her first swim meet as the youngest and smallest on her team. Watching her focus was inspiring, and the best was seeing her as she did her butterfly stroke, which has not been her strongest stroke. She moved fearlessly through the water with as much passion for her hardest stroke as she did with her favorite, the breast stroke. Wow! It doesn't get much better than that!

So now, I pose these questions to you -- what limitations are you experiencing in your life? Is there something that you can do to push through them? What is your underlying commitment that motivates you to move through the limitation? These are questions that deserve your attention and honesty and believe me, the answers are well worth the time!!
