Coaching Corner: Preparing for 2016 (Part Two)

Coaching Corner: Preparing for 2016 (Part Two)

Dec 29, 2015

There is no doubt in my mind that each of you spent some time considering what success means to you for this upcoming year! And, since you did such a great job, we will move on to creating some action steps! Here we go...

  1. If for you (and only you), being successful means __________, now, change that to a “want,” if you haven't already done that. So, for example, if part of your business success would look like creating a team, convert that into a statement of “I want to create a team in my real estate business.” Notice the key word here of I “want” rather than I “should” or I “need to.” The essence of the word ”want” is distinctive and generates a different feeling. Try saying it out loud and see how you feel when you do. Hopefully you feel some excitement around the idea and perhaps along with that excitement you may have some fear. That's OK, as long as the excitement is there, we have something to work with.
  2. Now grab some paper and write your “want” at the top of the page. And, ask yourself WHY you want this particular success. This piece is so important and is what is typically overlooked when people are making their hopeful lists of resolutions for the upcoming year. Why do you want to have a team in 2016? How does that change your business and even your life? What would be different and better? Really get into the feeling of this success. Write down each “why” that comes to mind, pausing with each to squeeze every bit of juice out of each one. Does it still feel good to you? If not, I would strongly suggest that you put that particular success aside and move to another that continues to elicit great feelings within you. If it still feels good, move onto step #3.
  3. We are ready to identify action steps to get you to your sought after success. Continuing to use the above example, ask yourself what needs to happen first. Perhaps it might be to list what activities a team member might do -- where do you need the most help? What would you like to focus more on and have someone else help with? Answering these questions might help to clarify if you want 1 or 2 others working with you on your team. Do you have someone in mind for this position or do you need to find this person? The idea here is to break down the idea of "Creating a Team" into baby, baby, baby pieces so that you can easily implement these actions into your already busy schedule.

So there you have it -- hopefully this process will lead you to the success that you desire! It is so easy to fall into the trap of creating our New Year's resolutions based upon what we think we should be doing, rather than discovering our truest desires of the new year! This activity is meant to be fun, so enjoy!

Happy New Year's to you and make 2016 a year of success!!!
