Coaching Corner: What do you really want?

Coaching Corner: What do you really want?

Without exception, I have found that the answer lies in a place where few look — in the refrigerator! I say this in jest; however, it is part of the answer. The commonality among these clients is that somewhere along the way they have lost their ability to choose what they really want. They are on autopilot, choosing because it's easier, or perhaps because someone else thinks they should. So now, here they are, sitting across from me trying with all of their being to figure out a direction that would feel the best when the reality is they have not been basing their smallest of choices on what they really want.

Here are a few tips to keep you from falling into the black hole of unconscious choices. If you begin to follow some of these ideas, you will build your “want muscles” and be much more adequately equipped to make bigger choices that cross your path. So let's tie this back into the refrigerator...

  • When you wake up in the morning, make a clear intention of how you want your day to go.
  • Moving into the kitchen (aha, the refrigerator) explore your options for breakfast…..hmm, what sounds wonderful to eat this morning? Try to stay away from automatic choices.
  • Next, to your closet — which clothes will allow you to feel and look your best?
  • When you are in a restaurant, look at the menu, really look at it and check in with yourself to determine what food resonates most for you.
  • How about when you go on a listing consultation and then walk out the door with a listing that is $30,000 overpriced? Is that what you truly want? Probably not, but sometimes we take it because its easier and it is a listing after all!

Have fun with learning what is a true “yes” and what is a true “no” for you. Bring self awareness into the daily activities that we all have and see what choices open before you!
