Coaching Corner: Bah humbug or holiday cheer?

As I write this blog post, I am sitting in the airport with countless others, some sleeping, some working -- all waiting longer than expected due to a flight delay. As I look around, holiday cheer seems to be at a minimum at best. People are hustling and bustling, moving to get to their desired destination, reminding me of the saying, “life is a journey, not a destination.”

Are we, you and I, taking in the beauty of the moment? The joy of the holidays? Or are we just hustling and bustling to get to our desired destination -- whatever that is? Are we so caught up in holiday preparations that we cease to enjoy what is right in front of us?

This week, please take some time to pay attention to whether or not you are finding joy in the moment. That’s not to say each moment will be filled with delight, sometimes we have to seek those moments out, finding them in obscure places. For instance, I just experienced quite the chuckle as I attempted to charge my phone at the desk located at my gate. This very helpful woman who was sitting next to me pointed out that I was, she said smiling, inserting my plug into the wrong space! We both laughed and chatted a bit. This was quite the pleasant diversion from the overall grumpiness that seems to pervade this airport gate.

Enjoy this time, seek out delightful experiences as you not only approach the holiday, but into the new year and beyond. HoHoHo!
