Coaching Corner: So you want to join a NAR Committee....now what?

Let’s pick up where we left off last week. You have gone through the email you received from Ohio REALTORS regarding committee sign up for the National Association of REALTORS and yes, you find yourself intrigued and want to move forward. The process can seem somewhat intimidating, but no worries, I am here to break this down for you.

Step #1 - Create or edit your "Expertise Profile -- NAR utilizes this Expertise Profile for each NAR member when choosing committee members and leadership appointments. It is very important to keep your profile updated with current information and a current photo!!! You can access the Expertise Profile home page by clicking here. (NOTE: You will be prompted to log in to NAR’s website.)

Step #2 - Review the NAR Committee Structure (NOTE: You will be prompted to log in to NAR’s website)to determine which committee might interest you. Think about what skillset and/or interest you might bring to a committee.

Step #3 - Submit your Committee applications (NOTE: Click on "Apply Now"). You can submit up to five applications. When you are submitting your application, it is very important to fill out the section “Please provide details on your qualifications for service on this committee.” You are limited in the number of characters. It is also very important to use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation when filling out this section. When complete, submit your applications.

Step #4 - Seek endorsements for your applications. NAR encourages applicants to seek up to three endorsements for each committee application submitted. That doesn’t mean you can’t ask for more endorsements, but only three can be completed. Follow the instructions on NAR’S website for requesting endorsements. You can’t request endorsements from NAR Leadership Team, appointed and incoming Vice Presidents and NAR Staff.

Step #5 - Log back into the NAR site to check your endorsements. Endorsements can only be submitted until May 1.

Hopefully these steps will assist you in your desire to serve on an NAR Committee. Look for next week’s blog where there will be further tips!
