Coaching Corner: But it's supposed to be fun!

Coaching Corner: But it's supposed to be fun!

Making sure I experience fun has become a component of daily life these days and I highly recommend it! For many years, I considered the idea of having fun as that oh so illusive goal that I rarely attained. There are two words that have assisted me on my quest for fun--choice and intention.

Let’s look at choice first. Think about the parts of your life where you are NOT having fun. What are you doing? Is it around work? Relationships? Health? Then check in with your choices--are you choosing to participate in activities that bring you down? In your work life, you may well love a good part of what you do...and then, there is that piece that you absolutely could live without. Or relationships--are you choosing drama over love? And note, this may not be a conscious thought.

Many of us grew up with the message--either verbally or by illustration--that life is HARD! That was certainly true for me. When we have that message ingrained within our psyche, it takes focus to turn things around.

Now, let’s take a peak at intention. If we are not focusing our attention on our intention (cute, right?), we will get whatever shows up. However, if we focus our attention on intending to be happy, have fun, etc., it's a much easier path to get where we really want to be.

This, as well as most items I discuss, takes practice. It does not need to be hard--it just requires focus and commitment. You can do this--it’s fun!!!
