Coaching Corner: Where is your focus?

Coaching Corner: Where is your focus?

When disasters of the proportions of “Sandy” occur, it can prompt us to put our lives in perspective. That is not to minimize the importance of resolving the issues in front of us, but to put our attention on how good things are; finding the areas of our lives that we can easily appreciate.

You have a choice — you can go into “woe is me,” or move forward with the realization that although there are challenges to contend with, you do not need to be at the affect of that situation.

I remember when one of my oldest sons was undergoing chemotherapy for Hodgkin's Disease. During one of our weekly visits, the oncologist praised him for how good he was doing through a very intense chemo treatment. My son replied that yes he was doing well; he was doing good because he felt so much different about all of his relationships and his perspective of how he wanted to live his life had changed for the better. He changed through that experience because he did not go to that place of victim. Instead, he used it as a springboard to focus on what was good in his life. He was and is, an inspiration for me.

So…when situations come up for you, and they will, remember you have a choice. What will you choose?
