Coaching Corner: Be Still

No one can argue that life is interesting.  There is an underlying hum of discontent within so many of us.  Although it might not be anything you can put your finger precisely on,it is a feeling that can pop up at times when we least expect, causing us to feel less than wonderful.

Today (and tomorrow), I invite you to begin your day in stillness…pure stillness.  It doesn’t have to be a big deal or a lengthy process.  Keep it simple!  It may require getting up before the rest of your family; trust me it's worth it.

Find a comfortable place to sit with both feet on the floor and an upright spine.  It helps to take several deep breaths, originating in your lower belly and coming into your chest.   Gentle, easy, calm, steady….

Focus your attention on this breath and how it feels moving through your body.  Notice the places within your body that feel tight or uneasy, and direct your breath to those places.  This is an easy process and should not be effortful.  If you can do this for just a few minutes, you will find yourself in a much calmer space.  Trust me, this beats the heck out of jumping out of bed and starting your day!
