HB 315 Passes Unanimously with Key Housing Provision
By Anastasia Kotkovskaya, Manager, Advocacy and Research
Ohio REALTORS® are pleased to share that House Bill (HB) 315 has unanimously passed the Ohio House of Representatives. HB 315 is this General Assembly’s township omnibus bill that includes an important provision to establish the Housing Technical Assistance Program.
This bill contains a comprehensive package of provisions to address multiple township issues and, importantly, provides for the creation of a program addressing Ohio’s pressing housing challenges. The Housing Technical Assistance Program is designed to provide essential funding to local governments for modernizing outdated zoning codes and removing barriers to housing construction. This ability to modernize and adjust would help streamline the process of approving new housing projects, facilitate increased housing development, and ultimately make housing more affordable for residents.
In their testimony, Ohio REALTORS® stressed the importance of this initiative, urging the legislature to consider increasing the funding beyond the initial $1.5 million per year to meet the anticipated high demand and ensure the program’s successful implementation.
HB 315 will now move forward to the Ohio Senate’s legislative process.
