Coaching Corner: How much success can you tolerate?

Coaching Corner: How much success can you tolerate?

Beliefs are not typically in the forefront of our consciousness -- they are most often unconscious, and the only clues we may get is in observing what is showing up in our physical reality. So, let's say you have decided that success for your business means four closed transactions per month, and this month you are realizing that goal! Now, lets hypothetically say that you have an unconscious belief that you have to work hard to be successful. Take it a step further...the deals have come about easily and you have had a good amount of free time, which does not equate in our unconscious mind as “working hard.”

This could create an upper limit for you where unconsciously and in your physical reality you experience a bit of self-sabotage, which could be showing up within the deals themselves or in other parts of your life. Perhaps you have a fender bender or you trip and hurt yourself. The possibilities are endless!

I will share with you my favorite “upper limit” story...on the day that I turned 50, I was in complete celebratory mode. I had a massage and had gotten calls from friends and family both near and far -- I was flying! The two appointments I had scheduled were to meet with our kitchen designer at the house and to get my hair cut -- fun, fun and more fun! My husband had made reservations for dinner at a great restaurant that night and a party was happening two days later!

As we completed the meeting with the kitchen designer, I remember thinking how incredible this day was and felt tremendous excitement about the new kitchen we were planning. My thoughts were filled with joy, and just that quickly I got into my car in the garage and promptly SMASHED into my husband's car which was parked in the driveway! Not a little smash -- we both had damage to our cars.

Realizing what had happened on an emotional level, I quickly rebounded and was able to move forward with my day but it was a clear indication to me that I still held a belief somewhere that told me that I was having way too much fun and somehow that was not OK.

When we hit (sometimes literally) one of these places, we will slow down the success, or the fun or the joy that we have been experiencing. So now, when I am in the midst of my desired success in whatever area of my life, I pay more attention. I might physically slow myself down, or do some breathing, bringing my awareness to allowing all of the wonderful events and feelings happening for me!

So, today, I ask you, are you willing to experience more success? You may get a strong YES to that question or you may have some negative thoughts come forth. Maybe “other people are successful but not me.” Pay attention to what is showing up. The more tuned in to ourselves, the more easeful our journey will become! Enjoy!
