The presentation of the award was made at the Association's Board of Directors meeting during the OAR 105th Annual Convention, Sept. 20-22, in Columbus.

The Phillip R. Barnes RPAC Achievement Award was created in 2001 in memory of Past President Phillip R. Barnes, who was a leading advocate of the organization's REALTORS Political Action Committee. The Award is presented annually to a REALTOR whose commitment to RPAC and political involvement is exemplary.

Aveni has been a leader within the real estate profession and has served OAR with distinction throughout his career. He was one of the first recipients of OAR's prestigious Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes members with at least 25 years of service to the Association who have demonstrated an uncommon commitment to the goals and purposes of the REALTOR association at all levels without having served as OAR president.

Aveni has served as a long-time OAR Director and has chaired numerous committees within the organization, including RPAC Trustees.

A strong supporter of RPAC, he is recognized by NAR as a Charter Golden R contributor. He is a member of the NAR RPAC Hall of Fame and a President's Circle member.

"Over the years, Joe has truly led by example on the importance of RPAC," said OAR President Greg Hrabcak. "REALTORS are beneficiaries of his unmatched leadership and support to this important cause, but also to his tireless effort toward improving the real estate industry and profession."

Past recipients of the Phillip R. Barnes RPAC Achievement Award are: Phil Barnes (2001), Harley E. Rouda (2002), Vince Aveni (2003), Mary Pollock (2004), Nancy Sharp (2005), George Smith (2006), Steve Brown (2007), Hal Maxfield (2008), Barbara Lach (2009), Darlene Breen (2010), Bonnie Boyd (2011), Charlotte Van Steyn (2012), Phil Morrical Jr. (2013 -- posthumously), and John Lynch (2014).

The Ohio Association of REALTORS, with more than 28,000 members, is the largest professional trade association in Ohio.
