Gloria Alonso Cannon receives OAR's 2016 'REALTOR of the Year' award

Columbus REALTOR Gloria Alonso Cannon was honored as the Ohio Association of REALTORS' 2016 REALTOR of the Year.

The announcement of Cannon's selection was made at the Association's 106th Annual Convention, Sept. 19-21, in Cleveland.

Cannon was nominated by the Columbus REALTORS and is associated with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Professional Realty.

Judging of the REALTOR of the Year award is based on professional achievements, local REALTOR Board/Association activities, service to the Ohio and National Association of REALTORS, as well as business and education experience and civic activities.

Cannon has served as member and in leadership on a variety of Columbus REALTOR Committees, including its Governmental Affairs, REALTOR Care Day, REALTORS Political Action Committee (RPAC) Fundraising, Standard Forms, Leadership Academy Advisory, Foundation Fundraising, Technology Users, Benevolence Fund and Grievance committees, among others. She has also served in a œspecial capacity on the Website Redesign Task Force, MLS Data Sharing Task Force, Strategic Planning and Leadership Academy Task Force.

She has been a REALTOR since 1996.

On the state level, Cannon served as OAR District Vice President (2013-2014) and has been a director since 2009. She served as has served as a member of the organization's Board of Directors and as chair of the OAR RPAC Fundraising, Convention, Strategic Planning, and Legislative Steering committees. Most recently, she serves as chair of the newly created OAR Leadership Academy Advisory Board.

Cannon has also served as a member of the OAR Executive, Communications, Equal Opportunity & Cultural Diversity, Professional Development, RPAC Fundraising, Economic Issues & Trends Forum, Convention, Business Technology, Legal Issues, Legislative, Local Government Forum, Professional Standards Forum and Strategic Planning, among others. Most recently she was a member of the organization's Governance Task Force.

Cannon has served as a member of the National Association of REALTORS' Land Use Property Rights and Environment, Consumer Communications Committee, RPAC Trustees Fundraising, RPAC Major Investor Council, State Representative RPIC and Social Media Advisory Board. She is a member of the Women's Council of REALTORS (WCR) and holds the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Graduate, REALTOR Institute and e-Pro professional designations. Cannon is a 2013 NAR Leadership Academy graduate. She contributes to RPAC at the Sterling R Major Investor level.

Civically, she has been involved with the Adopt A Soldier Group, Chamber of Commerce, Fairy Godmothers/Cinderella's Closet, REALTOR Care Day, Adopt Families and Toy Donations for Children's Hospital, various animal rescue groups, among others.

The Ohio Association of REALTORS, with more than 30,000 members, is the largest professional trade association in Ohio.
