Coaching Corner: Are you setting goals? Based on what?

Coaching Corner: Are you setting goals? Based on what?

I can remember many years back working tirelessly on a business plan proposed by a top real estate trainer. Days of calculating my past sales along with number of calls, etc. would lead me to this amazing set of numbers designed to bring me to my desired success. Unfortunately, I spent more time creating the plan than working it!

And then it dawned on me -- nowhere in this plan was there a reason for these numbers -- why were they important? How would my life be better if I achieved these goals? And...what was truly important in my life?

My invitation to you is to look at the values that are true for you -- what do you hold important in your life. Not the “shoulds” or the “have to's,” but the core basic values that each of us hold. Here are just a few examples: ADVENTURE, BEAUTY, TO CONTRIBUTE, TO CREATE, TO DISCOVER, TO LEAD, MASTERY, PLEASURE, TO RELATE, SPIRITUALITY, TO TEACH.

As I said, these are but a few. Find out what drives you -- identifying your individual values will bring you closer to fulfillment. When you set your goals, ask yourself why you want what you want and then look at how this particular goal connects back to YOUR values. Once you get in touch with your own values, goal setting will go much easier and you will attain your desired results more quickly. This becomes a blue print for YOU! One that brings more meaning into your life as well as more joy!
